Evan has a tip for shoe care
I like to give our customers personal instruction about shoe care in the shop.
However what I will say is this : We do advise for new leather sole shoes that they be worn in dry conditions as long as possible to allow the leather fibres to consolidate along with the fine grit they pick up, so the soles form a hard wearing surface.
Because this wearing in process isn’t always possible in our weather conditions, it is advisable to bring the shoes into my repair shop and let me fix good quality protector soles onto them. To prepare the leather soles before adding protector soles, they should be walked in over a short time so they flex and bend to match the way you walk. The time taken to create this flex in the shoe also depends on how thick the leather soles are in the first place, but is typically just a few days of normal wear and walking.
